4 Places to See in Texas Hill Country

What is Texas Hill Country? This breathtaking region of the Lone Star State is comprised of 25 counties in Central Texas, starting with the rolling plains of the north, down to the Edward’s Plateau in the south.

There’s plenty of ground to cover between these 31,000 square miles. 1. Hamilton Pool Preserve

An oasis in the middle of Texas’ blazing hot heat, the Hamilton Pool Preserve is a natural pool framed by limestone featuring a 50-foot waterfall. Located just outside of Austin, it’s open from March through October, plus weekends in November and December. During most months of the year, reservations are required to visit, so check the park’s website before planning a visit.

2. Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge

This wildlife habitat in Marble Falls has more than 7 miles of trails. Hiking is a beautiful way to see Texas Hill Country and catch a glimpse of more than 245 different species of birds, including the golden-cheeked warbler and black-capped vireo.

3. Fischer Park

Discover the largest park in New Braunfels that the whole family can enjoy together. You’ll find playgrounds, splash pads, fishing ponds, picnic areas, kayak rentals, and stunning hiking trails with panoramic views. Be sure to float on a tube down the river.

4. Stonehenge II Replica

The Texas replica of Stonehenge is a sight to behold. You’ll find this tribute to the original just west of Hunt with almost the exact same dimensions — it’s 90 percent as wide and 60 percent as tall. It’s open every day until sunset, and it’s a perfect spot to snap a vacation selfie.
