Get Inspired By The Color Pop Photo Contest

Vacation like a winner. One of the best parts of travel is the opportunity to explore and create memories in new places. As you congratulate your 2020 Destinations Color Pop Photo Contest winners, make note of the destination where the image was captured. It might just inspire your next bucket list vacation.

First Place: Pompano Beach, Florida

Sun. Sand. Seagulls. Near Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach is home to stunning beaches, featuring golden sand and Atlantic waves. Round up the family for a beach day to recreate a similarly fun photo — no shoes required. But this South Florida destination offers more than just the beach. When you’re all beach bummed out, explore the area for shopping, sightseeing, dining, and more. Highlights include boat rides through the Intracoastal Waterway, the Everglades, and sunny golf courses.

Second Place: Sedona, Arizona

You don’t have to be a yoga master to appreciate the majesty of Sedona’s red rocks. These formations of red sandstone make for some of the most picturesque canyons and buttes, the deep red color coming from hematite (rust) that stains the rock. Some popular hiking trails include the gorgeous Cathedral Rock trail and the Devil’s Bridge trail, through both require moderate hiking experience. If you’re looking for an easy walk with high rewards, try Red Rock Crossing, which is accessible from the Crescent Moon Day Use Site in Coconino National Forest.

Third Place: Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Kailua-Kona is full of picturesque locations, but this stunning shot was taken from the Captain Cook Monument. In 1874, a 27-foot obelisk was erected in Captain James Cook’s memory, the explorer who is thought to be the first westerner to set sight on the Hawaiian islands. The obelisk stands over Kealakekua Bay — accessible via boat ride, kayak, or 4-mile hike — and its clear and calm waters make it a popular snorkeling spot. Check it out for yourself, and keep your fingers crossed for a gorgeous rainbow to set the views over the top.

Owners’ Choice: Washington, D.C.

If you prefer your sights to be more city-oriented, The Capital Wheel in National Harbor, Maryland, is for you. This 180-foot tall Ferris wheel overlooks the Potomac River and Washington, D.C. Each gondola is private, seats up to eight people, and offers incredible views — day or night. While you’re there, walk around National Harbor and grab a meal together at one of the many tasty restaurants. Then hop on the water taxi back to D.C. to see all the bucket list museums, monuments, and memorials.
