Third Place: Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Kailua-Kona is full of picturesque locations, but this stunning shot was taken from the Captain Cook Monument. In 1874, a 27-foot obelisk was erected in Captain James Cook’s memory, the explorer who is thought to be the first westerner to set sight on the Hawaiian islands. The obelisk stands over Kealakekua Bay — accessible via boat ride, kayak, or 4-mile hike — and its clear and calm waters make it a popular snorkeling spot. If you prefer your sights to be more city-oriented, The Capital Wheel in National Harbor, Maryland, is for you. This 180-foot tall Ferris wheel overlooks the Potomac River and Washington, D.C.
